WELCOME TO THE ARTISTS’ BLOC!

Welcome to the ARTISTS’ BLOC in 2009!

Whether this is your first time or you’re returning to the bloc, we’re glad you’re here and thank you for your continued support of artists and their work.

2008 was a tough year.

The economy has made an already challenging career choice even more difficult for us in the artistic community. We begin to question our choices and the industry as a whole. Are we doing the right things? Is our work having an impact? Do they get it? It’s times like these when we rely on each other to help us through emotional and artistic challenges.

2009 offers hope.

The ARTISTS’ BLOC is the place to explore these issues and discuss solutions; the place to explore our craft free from the critical eye of the press; the place to develop our work and present it to our fellow artists and audiences for peer feedback; the place to unite as a community of artists crossing all disciplines and emerge with a strong voice to make a difference in our community.

It’s time for DC to enter a new artistic era; a time for DC artists to stand up for our work; a time to use our art forms to create positive change in our community. This is our time. This is our city. It’s time to stop being a disparate group of artists working next to each other and become a unit of artists working with each other. It’s time to give DC its artistic voice and let the nation know that DC is the place for new, experimental, exciting, challenging, political, and moving work. DC is the place where anything is possible - politically and artistically.

The ARTISTS’ BLOC is here to make this happen and there are many ways we can be involved - from support for ongoing ARTISTS’ BLOC programs and events to assisting in the creation of new programs. By simply attending ARTISTS’ BLOC events you demonstrate your support for our artistic community and lend your voice to ARTISTS’ BLOC members. The more we invest, the stronger our voice.

We look forward to serving our community in 2009.

OUR MISSION

The ARTISTS’ BLOC is a collective of emerging and established artists united to support and challenge the creative process by encouraging cross disciplinary collaboration in the creation and development of new works. Thru residencies, workshops, showcases, and performances the Artists’ Bloc provides an environment where artists can explore their work through the active engagement of their peers and a diverse audience.
